I'm here!

Just letting everyone know that I’m here and settling in. There is a wonderful group of teachers who also live on the grounds who have helped me get set up, taken me shopping, and who are teaching me how to live Ghanaian. The main thing that is different from my two previous trips is my attitude, I’m not a tourist this time. It’s exciting, strange and a bit hard, to some extent, to think ‘long term’ when I do things.

I’ve put up a few pictures of the inside of my bungalow-it came with basic furnishing and I’m slowly adding my own as well as setting up a kitchen. By the way I have only cold water so I’ve been boiling water to wash dishes with(It’s amazing how few dishes one person uses) and a cute little stove that you light with a match and I only seem to burn my finger every 5th time. There are probably about 20 teachers and their families who live on the grounds of the school. There have many visits and welcomings in these first few days. My favorite was Dorkus and Gifty (could there BE two better names?), two girls 19 and 21, daughters of a math teacher, who came by for no reason other than to introduce themselves and ask if I needed anything. I let them look through a People magazine that I bought in the airport J. They’ve been back twice.

I’ve been thinking about how to do this blog. I don’t want it to be a diary-if I do that I’ll lose most of you by October. The blogs that I’ve seen that are most interesting are just little stories about different things that happen. So that’s how I’m going to try to do this.

I've been checking every day to see if you got there safely! Yea, Leslie! I can't wait to hear how you settle in. My daughter is horrified by the picture of the spider. She wants to know what you did about it. My son offered to squish it for you. Let me know. I'll be happy to send him right over.

Hi Leslie! Glad you arrived safely. I'm subscribing to your blog, so I don't miss a thing.
