On Sunday Matthew (Fulbright from Springfield, Ill), Rebecca (Fulbright from Falls Church, Va) , some new Ghanaian friends and I drove less than an hour from Tema to Prampram, Old Ningo and New Ningo, three small very very old fishing villages. We watched the beautifully painted fishing boats be pulled ashore and got our feet (and more) wet in the strong surf. We ate by the sea and then drove deep into the territory passing mud huts, and fields of crops to meet with the local chief of the entire area. He has been chief for 36 years and looked to be in his 60s. He told us he has 3 wives and 16 children. He had a nice home, and welcomed us in the traditional way. This included drinking shots of whiskey and then drinking the milk from a coconut and eating it. Something different for a Sunday afternoon...
